Skills Bootcamps were introduced by the Government to help people develop new skills and get employment ready. They’re a great way to train in a new industry or progress your current career.

Entry to Early Years for Skills Bootcamp
W1se Angels is delivering the GLA Early Years Skills Bootcamps for Londoners programme. It aims to deliver flexible training programmes lasting up to 8 weeks, enabling adults (19+) to do training around work and other commitments, in order to gain work, additional responsibilities, or access new opportunities and will offer a
guaranteed job interview (in the case of a new job) to individual learners on completion of the course and a job.



Skills Bootcamp 1 ‘Entry-to-Early-Year’s’
W1seAngels’ ‘E-to-Early-Year’s’ Delivery is hybrid – blended learning face to face and online
The programme delivers practical skills in safeguarding, observation, SEND inclusion, and core routines. All learners complete an Paediatric First Aid certificate and Safeguarding training. Support with DBS application: We will handle the costs and paperwork for there DBS application

What will candidates learn during your Early Years Bootcamp?
The programme will be delivered on a module basis. Each module and learning session has its own learning objectives and subject matter. Content will develop the learners’ skills, knowledge, and behaviours to support career progression.
Week 1 – Induction & Professional Conduct

Introduction to programme aims, structure, digital systems, and ILP baseline setting

Overview of the Early Years sector and EYFS framework
-
Expectations for professional conduct: punctuality, confidentiality, dress code, role clarity
-
Introduction to safeguarding culture; safe working practices and whistleblowing
Week 2 – Safeguarding course
-
Different terms around safeguarding and child protection.
-
Legislation and guidance that underpin safeguarding and child protection.
-
Policies and procedures that cover safeguarding and child protection.
-
Roles and responsibilities of those working in early years when it comes to safeguarding.
-
Different types of abuse and their signs.
-
Responding to evidence and concerns of abuse to protect children.
-
Record keeping relating to safeguarding and child protection.
Week 3 – Child Development & Inclusive Practice

Child development across EYFS: prime and specific areas, expected vs delayed milestones
-
Observation and record keeping: methods, frequency, and integration into daily routines

Inclusive practice for SEND: EHCP structure, graduated approach, adaptations in mainstream settings
-
Supporting EAL learners: strategies for inclusion, communication, and cultural
responsiveness
Week 4 – Play-Based Learning & Health and Safety

Exploration of play-based learning: role of the adult, types of play, links to EYFS learning
goals -
Activity planning: aligning play themes to developmental outcomes, using thematic units

Risk assessment procedures: indoor vs outdoor play, hazard spotting, control measures

Practical walkthroughs: equipment safety, infection control, incident reporting

Group activity planning exercise with peer critique and health/safety overlays
Week 5 - Paediatric First Aid (6 hours – Face to Face)

Be able to assess an emergency situation and prioritize what action to take.
-
Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
-
Help a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (hypovolemic
shock). -
Help a baby or child having: a diabetic emergency; an asthma attack; an allergic reaction;
meningitis; and/or febrile convulsions. -
Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider (including appropriate
contents of a first aid box and the need for recording accidents and incidents).
Week 6 - 8 – Confidence building, Behaviour Development, Employability

Mock interview (1): behavioural and scenario-based questions with employer panellists

Tutor-led feedback using structured scoring: safeguarding, values, communication,
confidence, readiness -
Peer-reviewed behaviour scenarios: escalating concerns, supporting transitions, teamwork

Optional second interview for learners scoring below threshold, with targeted coaching

Behaviour Mentor review sessions for flagged learners using Behaviour Progression
